Celebrate Matariki with a free concert at the Museum featuring a string quartet, taonga puuoro, and kapa haka.

Live music and kapa haka at the Museum

Celebrate Matariki with us at a free, all-ages concert on the Marae Atea. Two performances bring the spirit of Matariki to life through music, song, and story. No booking required, everyone welcome.

Schedule

11.30am: Orchestras Central

A string quartet joins taonga puuoro for a season-fitting blend of classical and traditional Maaori sound, with an MC sharing Matariki puuraakau (stories) between pieces.

1pm: Te Haona Kaha

A kapa haka roopuu, bringing energy and pride to the Marae Atea. Te Haona Kaha recently placed 4th at the Tainui regional Te Matatini heats. Don't miss this chance to see them perform!
